Seize the Moment for Relational Impact

John was having lunch one day when he received a desperate phone call from Tim, his boss.

"Hey Tim, how are you?" John asked.

Tim's response was alarming. "Things are really bad. Corporate is putting pressure on me and today I just found out my wife wants to leave me."

The phone went silent, long enough for John to hear Tim's ragged breath as he tried to hold back the tears. John was not sure what to say so he just listened. Later that night John was sharing the conversation with his wife. She suggested he meet with Tim to encourage him to pursue God and get Biblical mentoring. John's answer was as common as it was disappointing.
"Honey, I don't want to push the Bible on him. I will wait on God to give me an opportunity."

I understand the fear and uncertainty of pointing people to the Lord, particularly in the work setting. I am not judging. But this WAS God giving John an opportunity. This was John's chance to unleash the power of the Holy Spirit.

It boils down to this: If you want to make a relational impact – SEIZE THE MOMENT.

Pain is often the gateway to someone's soul. Their pain represents spiritual opportunity. Not to pounce, not to preach, not to judge or overwhelm them. Simply to serve them with gentle truth and guidance.

God wants you to be His mouthpiece. He isn't going to mail you a letter or shout from the sky, "TALK TO THAT PERSON NOW!"

Seize the moment. Meet with that person or call them and slowly work into their pain. Start by asking questions and offering hope. The deepest relationships I have in my life are often a result of speaking into someone's life during a dark hour while sharing truth wrapped in love. Making the phone call or having that lunch with someone shouts out, "I LOVE YOU." I know you may feel unqualified, yet He is in you. You may feel inadequate, yet He is in you. God wants to speak through you. You.
So, take the initiative. Be assertive. God has already paved the way and is wanting you to step up. He has gone before you and will be there after you.

Become a relational impact on someone soon. Step back and see the power of the Holy Spirit work through you and the words God gave you.

Matthew 5:14: "You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Let your light shine before others that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven."
